Quantitative Methods in International Relations (3). This course is an epistemological and methodological survey of quantitative social scientific inquiry. It examines concept construction and measurement in statistical and other research techniques. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of data and substantive interpretation of results. Offered every fall. Restriction: International Relations (PhD).

Large Sample Data Analysis (3) This applied research course focuses on large N quantitative analysis, specifically the use of statistical techniques to develop and test arguments about socio-political phenomena. Students acquire skills needed to solve common analytical quests and questions, including the acquisition, management, manipulation, estimation and interpretation of findings from large sample data, using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Students also learn common techniques for displaying and communicating findings for professional and lay audiences, culminating in the development of an original research project. The course requires the use of R. Students produce an independent, scholarly project, consisting of an original research paper and presentation. Prerequisite: SISU-206.

SIS-600 Int’l Affairs Stats & Methods. Statistics, Research Design, and Research Methods for International Affairs (3) Introduction to research design and research methods with particular focus on quantitative measurement, statistical analysis, and computer use for international relations research.
